SUCCESS STORIES

We are very proud to show everyone a few stories that will make you feel better about how people can come together to help stray dogs and cats. Sometimes while we are looking for dogs to spay and neuter, we encounter an emergency case, and if necessary, we foster them until they get adopted.

Spay/Neuter campaign of 300 dogs and cats - Santa Marta, Colombia. Nov 2023

November 17 – 19, 2023 we joined HOLA’s 4th sterilization campaign. This gorgeous coastal city is rich with history (it’s the second oldest city in South America!), nature and things to do. When you arrive in Santa Marta, you’ll see a welcome sign that states, “here you can have it all”

This is a popular tourist city, with nearby Tayrona National Park drawing visitors from around the world. There is a persistent pet overpopulation issue here and our community partners in the area have long been seeking assistance. When we help the animals, we help the community, providing a One Health/One Welfare approach.

Our Santa Marta Sterilization Campaign has a goal of spaying and neutering 300 dogs and cats within a 3 day period. We will be working with local veterinarians, and 9 rockstar international volunteers.

Homeless man let us spay his pet

His dog has had eight litters and all those puppies have ended up homeless like his owner. We want to avoid having more dogs suffering on the streets. We are so happy that now she is not going to have anymore unwanted pups. We feel very rewarded for helping underserved communities.

200 spay/neuter surgeries in Malambo, Colombia 2023

Thank you we did it. With your help, Huella Roja was able to reach this goal and we’ll continue the work we’ve set out to do with more campaigns to come.

Malambo is a small town in the south of Barranquilla (where Shakira and Sofia Vergara are from), Colombia. It is an underserved area where residents sometimes struggle to make ends meet. The dog and cat overpopulation crisis in this area is severe, and while we don’t have data that tells us exactly how many stray animals reside in Malambo, we know this community needs our help to alleviate the pet overpopulation crisis by spaying and neutering stray and low-income family pets.

Coral

We also help other foundations such as Adopta un amigo and this is one of their many cases. When we see cases like this we feel helplessness, fear, and anger; but beyond that, we feel obligated to do something for them, to help them out, to avoid more suffering for this reason we look for alternatives, opinions and we strive to change their lives, a living example of a new opportunity is our brave Coral that despite the state in which she entered, she recovered and finally reached the comfort of a home that loves and understands her.  Thank you for continuing to believe in us and that together we make it possible!

Tayrona

We also help other foundations in need such as: “Adopta un Amigo”
And that’s how the life of our Tayrona changed forever, remember a couple of months ago when we showed you this puppy living in tremendous conditions of abandonment? , she had been abandoned by her family during the invasion, and the neighbors fed her and quenched her thirst in the puddles on the road 😔💔, when we saw her our hearts broke, we managed and several people joined us To get her out of there, it took several weeks of medical treatment because she was practically just parasites, she had anemia, tremendous gastroenteritis and it took her weeks to trust people again..😔 today almost three months after her rescue #tay is a beautiful furry, full of life and found a home that had a crush on her since her rescue, now she not only has some humans who melted with love with her but also two girls from which loves to be pampered and give love How life has changed Tayrona 🙏🏼, now from that furry full of fear and looking for how to survive on the street, only the memory remains!! Thanks to Roberto and his family for giving this little girl the opportunity to be happy again 💜🏡 TOGETHER WE KEEP CHANGING STORIES!

ENZO

We found Enzo in a small stream of water; he got stuck there as he was just a tiny puppy. This event happened around Christmas 2021. He was in terrible shape and had several health issues; malnourished, parasites, mange, and hip dysplasia. Fortunately, as you see in the video, he had a successful recovery.

SASHA

Sasha was a dog we found in the streets; if we see a stray animal in distress that needs help urgently, we act quickly. Such as a story is one of too many that needs urgent care. We are not veterinarians. However, we can tell that she is well, not Trish and that she needs treatment for mange. It looks like it is at an advanced stage. Many animals need our help, but Sasha looked worse than the others when we found her. We took care of her immediately. Our priority is to spay all female dogs eventually and male dogs when more funds become available. The dogs in this group from the video are very tame, and they are ready to be adopted. We also gave her nutritious food to gain weight as she was too thin. Many donors came to the rescue and donated medicine, so her hair grew again. Alirio took Sasha to his home because he needed to pay more attention and treat her more frequently.

1000 DOGS TO CURE

We work hard, almost daily, with the current body of volunteers and the help of our sponsors 1,000 Dogs to cure; bathe against fleas and ticks, deworm, ear cleaning, and cutting of nails. These types of campaigns are done around communities in need. Stray and low-income family pets benefit from them.

CHRISTMAS GIFT CAMPAIGN IN UNDERSERVED COMMUNITIES IN BOGOTA

We’ve always been taught, and on many levels known, that the world is better when we focus our time and energy on giving to others. But as news of global struggles and conflicts reaches us through our phones every hour of every day, our desire to help has only grown. Huella Roja has been collecting gifts for needy children every year around the holidays. We want to make children feel how valuable they are in the community. They were very thrilled to receive a gift.

WHAT WAS THEIR REACTION TO SEE THEIR PETS AFTER SURGERY?

Many people believe that spaying or neutering will change the personality of their pet, or make the pet become “fat and lazy.” Altering your pet can actually have a positive impact on your pet’s behavior as it reduces aggression, the desire to roam, and spraying or marking behavior, and most importantly it will prevent unwanted pregnancies. However, we put a lot of smiles on people’s faces. They were so happy to see their pets after their surgery. They were so happy to know their pets won’t reproduce any longer.

FEMALE CATS GETTING SPAYED AND KITTENS GETTING DEWORMED AND ANTIFLEA MEDICINEC

One of the kindest things you can do for your own pets and stray animals is to have them spayed or neutered. It can help them live longer, healthier lives, eliminate unwanted behaviors, and prevent animal overpopulation.  Prevent the birth of thousands of unwanted cats who will suffer. Bogotá, Colombia currently has at least 350,000 stray cats and dogs roaming its streets. Without homes, vaccinations, or spay or neuter surgeries, these animals will suffer from hunger, diseases, injuries, infections, and possibly cruelty. They will also reproduce, creating thousands of unwanted animals.

DOGS IN REMOTE AREAS OF BOGOTA GETTING SPAYED

Many people want to have their pets or community cats spayed or neutered, but when they find out how much it costs, they think it won’t be possible. But it absolutely is possible. Thanks to your contributions we can help remote areas in Bogota, Colombia to have their pet spayed or neutered. In this campaign, we are concentrating on female pets.

FREE SPAY AND NEUTER CAMPAIGN

These free campaigns, which take place in Bogota, Ciudad Bolivar, and Soacha, are financed by donations. Even though Soacha and Ciudad Bolivar are generally low-income, we still find angels who help us. We are very fortunate to have many animal lovers who want our community to respect stray animals and pets. As we all know, some dog owners also neglect their pets and think that they are just animals. These donations come from local people. However, we do not count on any grants or get help from the government or other entities. It would be great for a foundation to be sponsored by more individuals and enterprises to help animals in distress better and decrease the overpopulation of dogs and cats in Bogota, Colombia.

DOG OWNER FINALLY LET US SPAY HER DOG

One of the kindest things you can do for your own pets and stray animals is to have them spayed or neutered. It can help them live longer, healthier lives, eliminate unwanted behaviors, and prevent animal overpopulation. Having the procedure done at a low cost spay and neuter clinic is also budget-friendly.

Prevent the birth of thousands of unwanted pets who will suffer.

WE HELP LOW-INCOME PET FAMILIES

A  lot of the families in our community cannot afford to take their pets for vaccines, deworming, spaying, or neutering procedures and this is when Huella Roja comes in to help for the well being  of animals. We go to remote neighborhoods where pet owners cannot afford a spay/neuter surgery at a vet’s office. With your contributions we offer these surgeries at no charge at low-income communities.

DOG RECOVERS AFTER BEING RUN OVER BY A CAR

She was found on the side of a major highway in Bogota. It looks like she was run over by a car about a week before we were called to get to her.  We took her to the vet and realized that one of her legs was broken. She had a long journey as she is an older dog and her recovery took a while. Here she is using a device called an external fixator. This specialized device consists of multiple pins and external bars or rings, which hold a fractured bone in place during the healing process. An external fixator is used primarily for complex fractures or fractures paired with an external wound. After four months; here she is ready to find a forever home. She is finally off her external fixator and now is able to run using all her four paws. Unfortunately, she is an older dog, and even though she is a sweet girl, most people are looking for puppies or small-sized dogs.

SPAY/NEUTER SURGERIES

Huella Roja goes above and beyond to make sure that dogs in remote areas don’t keep on reproducing. We help to prevent the birth of thousands of unwanted animals who will suffer.

THE STRAY DOGS BEHIND THE MOVIE SCENES OF TRIPLE FRONTIER

One of the scenes of this Netflix film took place in Soacha where we helped stray animals. It was such a great, sweet story behind the scenes of this thriller. Stray dogs got adopted and many got spayed/neutered.

HUMANE EDUCATION

Our goal with these education classes is to teach families, especially young kids, to respect and love animals from a young age. They need to understand that they deserve the same respect as human beings. We also teach children and families the importance of having a pet in their homes. Pets help us to overcome many emotional challenges that we take for granted. We want adults to understand that spaying and neutering animals are responsibilities pet owners take on when they decide to share their lives with them.

ALASKA

She was walking alone on the street but no one noticed her. Alirio grabbed her and took her to his home where she got spayed and put up for adoption. After a few months, she found her forever home. We are glad that she is happy with her family and her forever family adores her too.

SOL

Sol waited a few months to get adopted but he finally found a forever home. He is having a blast with his new siblings. It is difficult to get a black dog adopted but I am glad that he was adopted and his family is very happy. His Family has sent videos and they are very pleased with him.

LUNA

Luna was left behind by her owners and their neighbors were supposed to watch her but she was on the street when we rescued her. We removed that heavy tumor and now she is a happy lady, looking for a forever home.

STRAY PUPPIES

These stray puppies were rescued from a dog that had just given birth on the street. We took care of them and spayed and neutered the pups. When they were old enough to be given for adoption. We had an event. It was very successful. and their families still send us pictures and videos of them. However. we are still waiting for the fifth pup to get adopted.

Enzo turned out to be such a good-looking puppy. Within 24 hours, we received 50 applications for adoption. We found a perfect family for him. He gets along with the second dog the family has. We are thrilled to have another happy ending for this puppy

SARA

We saw Sara, and it looked as if she just had puppies. We followed her to her home. We thought it was a stray dog at first. Sara took us to her house and we saw her puppies. It was very sad that the puppies already had a rough life.

The birth of unattended puppies like them is what we want to avoid. She will be spayed as well as her puppies to evade unwanted pregnancies.
